Get to Know the Owners of Picker’s Creek Winery
Pickers Creek Winery will be opening soon and for those of you that don’t know us, I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce the family. We are Phil and Lydia George. We have worked together in Phil’s law practice in Smyrna since 1987. The two of us work well as a team and we are excited for our new business venture together at Pickers Creek Winery.
We have wonderful daughters, two who were born to us and one “bonus” daughter who lives in Brazil. Alli (age 24) and Abby (age 22) are both are graduates from the University of Tennessee and are now starting lives of their own. They are very social media savvy, so I am thankful for their contributions to our website, Facebook and Twitter accounts. Our “bonus daughter”, Dani lived with our family as an exchange student from Brazil back in 1997-1998 and lived with us for extended periods several times after that. She has truly enriched and brightened our lives by sharing with us her family, her culture, and her life. She and her husband, Artur, and two very precious twin girls, Nara and Lia, live in Sao Paulo. At the winery, you may notice a Brazilian flag on our flagpole sometimes, paying homage to our close Brazilian family and friends.
The winery really is a family affair as Kenneth George, brother to Phil, also lives on the farm in the original homeplace and wears many hats, some of which change from day to day. He is the vineyard manager, music director, assistant wine maker and basically helps out with anything we need. He is also a “picker” and I am sure you will get to hear him pick and sing a few tunes. Phil’s brother, David, also a man of many talents, made the stained glass in the tasting room, as well as built the Adirondack chairs on the porch. Phil’s sister, Janet, is a featured artist, with many of her paintings hanging in our tasting room; and Lydia’s sister, Diane, may be seen helping out in the tasting room.
And last, but most definitely not least, are our two precious pets, Bella, our winery dog, (featured on our “Three Dog White” wine label), and Bo, our cuddly but mischievous cat. It is hard to describe just how amazing my family is in just a short blog. I am very proud of this loving but wild bunch and am eager to see what new adventures this winery will bring our way.
